Scope of the Knowledge and Development Centre (KDC)

The Knowledge and Development Center (KDC) is a dynamic and collaborative platform where health and humanitarian logistics professionals converge for training, research, Service improvement and innovative experiments. It will operate within the Dubai Humanitarian (DXBH) and leverage its existing infrastructure and network of humanitarian members, stakeholders, and partners.

The KDC objectives:

  • Setting up an environment that is prepared to absorb future health and humanitarian emergencies' shocks through enhancing the current health and humanitarian operational practices resulting in a better future recovery effort.
  • Building the capacity of health and humanitarian supply chain professionals in the humanitarian sector: The KDC will provide comprehensive training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance the skills and expertise of health logistics professionals, addressing the current skills gap.
  • Advancing academic partnerships and research: The KDC will establish a network of academic institutions to drive research in health and humanitarian logistics.
  • Tackling the information and data gap: The KDC will introduce innovative solutions and processes to address the information and data gap within the humanitarian sector, particularly in emergency response. This includes leveraging data analytics, digital platforms, and information sharing systems for improved decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Achieving cross-sectorial engagement and partnership: The KDC will promote continuous collaboration and partnership between the humanitarian community, the private sector, and academic institutions. By bringing together appropriate and diverse stakeholders, it aims to foster innovation, knowledge exchange, and collective action for improved health supply chain management.
  • Coordinating humanitarian resources and achieving global synergies: The KDC will facilitate the coordination and optimization of resources across the humanitarian sector both locally and internationally. It will work towards efficient resource allocation, reducing duplication, and maximizing impact by leveraging the strengths of different stakeholders and actors.
  • Local Impact: The KDC is not only committed to global humanitarian efforts but also places a strong emphasis on its local impact, this can be described as:
    • Involving the Emirati youth and local relative organizations and entities: Through mentorship programs, internships, and collaborative projects, the KDC will empower and inspire the next generation of humanitarian and development leaders, ensuring the continuity of humanitarian efforts beyond the KDC 's establishment.
    • Knowledge Transfer: The KDC will serve as a platform for Knowledge Transfer, sharing best practices, innovative approaches, and cutting-edge research in humanitarian health and humanitarian logistics. By hosting experts and practitioners from around the world, Dubai will become a hub for knowledge exchange, fostering the transfer of expertise and skills to local professionals and institutions.
    • Collaboration and Networking: The KDC 's activities will bring together humanitarian organizations, academic institutions, government entities, and private sector companies, fostering partnerships and joint initiatives. This collaboration will not only enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian efforts but also bring together the local and international entities from different sectors in which it would work as a platform that widens the horizon for the local entities to connect and explore opportunities with the international humanitarian sector.
