The Knowledge and Development Centre

A strategic transformation platform for global humanitarian leadership in an era of permanent disruption.

Who We Are

Dubai Humanitarian has long been known as the world’s pioneering humanitarian hub, connecting actors, enabling rapid response, and supporting operations across regions and crises. The knowledge and Development Centre (KDC) builds on this foundation by focusing on the human and strategic dimentions of humanitarian action. KDC was designed to transform operational experience into shared learning and to bring diverse actors together around common challenges.

The Knowledge and Development Centre is a platform for exchange, reflection, and transformation. Established to bridge the skills gap across the humanitarian sector, KDC brings together practitioners, institutions, and innovators to share knowledge, build capability, and rethink how the global humanitarian system prepares for what comes next. It is a strategic instrument, one that strengthens Dubai Humanitarian's global leadership, anchors the UAE's humanitarian diplomacy, and helps redefine how humanitarian systems prepare for the future.

This is not about keeping pace with change. It is about helping shape it.

Our Vision

To position Dubai as the place where the global humanitarian community comes together, to learn, to prepare, and to help shape the future of humanitarian action.

We believe the humanitarian sector's next chapter will be written not by those who respond fastest, but by those who prepare best. KDC exists to make that preparation collective, continuous, and shared across the entire humanitarian ecosystem, from Dubai Humanitarian's members and partners to the UN agencies, governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and private-sector innovators who make up the wider community.

Our Objectives

  • Bridge the skills gap across the humanitarian sector, locally and internationally
  • Foster knowledge sharing and innovation, translating lessons learned into practical capability
  • Strengthen academic and cross-sectoral partnerships that keep humanitarian practice grounded in the latest thinking
  • Optimize resources across the humanitarian system through shared intelligence and coordinated capacity
  • Deliver local impact while extending Dubai's humanitarian leadership on the global stage.

Bringing the Humanitarian Community Together

KDC's role is to connect local, regional, and global institutions, align them, and help them evolve together. That orchestration brings together a diverse set of actors who rarely operate in truly integrated ways:

  • Dubai Humanitarian members and partners, whose expertise and reach anchor the platform
  • Government partners, including host governments, donor nations, and regional authorities
  • UN agencies, from OCHA, UNFPA, and UNHCR to UNICEF, WFP, WHO and other specialized bodies
  • Regional hubs, extending connected humanitarian logistics and response capacity across geographies
  • International NGOs, contributing operational expertise and advocacy
  • Academic institutions, bringing research and knowledge partnership
  • The private sector, driving innovation, technology, and operational excellence

This ecosystem is built on formal partnerships, shared governance, and collaborative platforms, ensuring that every partner both contributes to and benefits from a shared transformation agenda.

The Four Transformation Pillars

To meet the full scope of humanitarian work, KDC's activities are guided by four pillars:

Agile Humanitarian Leadership & Diplomacy

Strengthening the leadership and diplomatic capabilities needed to operate under uncertainty, navigate political complexity, and sustain humanitarian access.

Community Engagement & Future Capacities

Expanding knowledge diffusion, local community and youth engagement, and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen long-term ecosystem resilience and future humanitarian skills.

Innovation, Sustainability & Digital Transformation

Advancing future-ready humanitarian operations through governed experimentation, green logistics, responsible digitalization, and innovation sandboxes.

Anticipatory Action & Strategic Foresight

Enabling preparedness through continuous sensing, foresight intelligence, shared decision frameworks, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise across humanitarian actors.
