United Nations announced in a statement today that Aid agencies have mobilised relief aid from the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai to send the relief to thousands of displaced families in Gaza.
It added that the relief supplies have been donated to the United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to distribute them to thousands of the displaced families in Gaza.
The statement said a cargo was dispatched to Gaza on Sunday carrying 114 metric tons of aid, containing 45,000 mattresses, 10,000 blankets and 220 hygiene kits. The plane landed at Marka International Airport in Amman early on Monday.
UNRWA Commissioner General, Pierre Krahenbuhl, commended the UAE and the aid agencies over their immediate response, adding that “The Dubai airlift demonstrates how effective concerted humanitarians can be.” He added that the IHC coordinated participation of member organisations, including The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN World Food Programme (WFP)/UN Humanitarian Response Depot), the UN Children’s Fund, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Emirates Red Crescent participated in the initiative.
