The humanitarian efforts of the UN Messenger of Peace and Chairperson of the International Humanitarian City (IHC), Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai was emphasized by Mr. Amin Awad, Director of the Division of Emergency, Security and Supply in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva. Mr. Awad stressed that the humanitarian services and work over the past years witnessed extraordinary movement on the international level of humanitarian assistance to the refugees in various countries across the world.
Awad said: “The UNHCR stocks of humanitarian aid in the International Humanitarian City in Dubai witnessed a significant increase of 77% during the past year compared to 2010. The operations from IHC served about 20 countries around the world, 203 shipments worth 147 million dirhams of humanitarian aid were transferred by land, air and sea of which 66 million dirhams worth of aid were earmarked for Syrian refugees. The shipments included 25,800 tents, 312,000 blankets, 235,000 sleeping mats, 15,000 water buckets, 82,000 cooking tools and 93,000 washing bowls and plastic sheeting.”
