Dubai, UAE, 12 October 2014. The International Humanitarian City (IHC) will participate for the first time inthe upcoming GITEX Technology Week which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center from 12-16 October, 2014.
Host to 9 UN Agencies and over 50 international NGOs and commercial companies as members, IHC has grown to become the world’s largest logistics and humanitarian hub. With the growth of GITEX being synonymous with the evolution of Dubai as a global destination, IHC has chosen to launch its smart services and smart applications for the public at GITEX, as part of its commitment to becoming the global leader in humanitarian and aid coordination.
At the exhibition, IHC will launch its new smart mobile applications which enable its member’s organizations to access IHC’s services through interactive and user friendly platform. The smart applications will be demonstrated at the exhibition for visitors. Also, the smart applications will enable the publicand media to obtain updated news about the humanitarian emergency response and all humanitarian activities conducted by the IHC and its members.
“We are pleased to exhibit our new technologies at the most widely recognized ICT event and business gateway to the Middle East and North Africa,” said IHC CEO Shaima Al Zarooni. “Today we fulfil our promises we committed last year to our valuable memebrs and we mark our technological presence which is becoming an increasingly essential element in the humanitarian landscape. In addition, fostering partnerships is a strong pillar of our establishment, and I look forward to new regional and international collaborations that will be the outcome of GITEX Technology Week for the International Humanitarian City,” she added.
IHC has been operating from Dubai since HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum established it in 2003 and has helped deliver aid in some of the worst humanitarian crises of the past decade, including the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia, the recurring drought in the Horn of Africa, civil unrest in Afghanistan and Darfur, the 2010 earth quake inHaiti, 2011 unrest in North Africa. More recently, IHC and its members have been heavily engaged in the emergency responses to Syria and Philippines, in addition to the latest aid operations for Gaza and Iraq.
